The course is outstanding, the facilites are good and green fees are value.
This is not one of the oldest club's around. Created in 1972 in Essex parkland, the course measures a generous 6,703 yards (par 72) made up of four par 3s, ten par 4s and four par 5s.
Designed by Alec Swan, of Golf Landscapes, the 18th green rests precariously close to the excellent clubhouse patio and bar where stray slices sees members diving for cover on warm summer evenings and weekends.
The course's beauty is rooted in the wealth of mature, mixed species trees and water features.
The club has in recent years hosted the Essex County Championships, the Leslie Wood final, the Essex Ladies County Championships and the Essex Foursomes, which is indicative of the course quality and golfing challenge.
The big, brave hitters are encouraged to take on the narrowest of gaps in return for a short iron or wedge into tight greens. Any decision to take the safer driving option all too often leave the cautious golfer with a difficult second shot into faraway green, that defeats the object of safe play in the first place: a double or treble bogey on the card.
Among the toughest holes is the 16th, a left to right dog leg. The golfer must decide on his second shot whether to take on the long carry across the lake that fully protects the green or a lay up and then rely on an accurate pitch and putt to achieve par.
The course benefits from good drainage, with temporary greens or tees rarely in action.
The lounge/dining room are good, although the spike bar could be better.
Other facilities include a practice putting green and a 200 yards practice field.
Green fees and society packages represent some of the best value in the county. Societies are accepted on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
